Every once in a while, a short film hits the Town and everybody goes ga-ga.
"Panic Attack!" is a short from a Uruguayan filmmaker named Fede Alvarez. He made the short for about $300, according to people in the know, and hit YouTube two weeks ago. Almost immediately the calls from Hollywood came, from the agencies to the production companies, with comparisons to Neill Blomkamp being thrown around.
Alvarez has been in town this week, with everyone doing a full-court press to sign this guy and to have him aligned with their projects.
Welcome to Hollywood, Fede:

I've never seen someone who thought they were the shit just because they could play a song on rockband...if anything, rockband has given me the drive to learn how to play drums and guitar since I found it rather enjoyable. I still somewhat suck at the instruments but I get better every day

Ooh.. What a video. I am just amazed by the technique used for it. I am also working as a assistant and I know it's really difficult to take such shot. It's simply great...

Great way to break into the movie business. Film one good scene and let Hollywood come to you. I like this idea.

Do you see some resemblance?
Also, I didn't like the music...to slow for the action. But the music from Alive in Joburg (Neill Bloomkamp) was fantastic!

I was thinking of comparisons to Kerry Conran. Not much story in this clip and Hollywood, not being one to shy from an untold story, would only throw more money at that. Perhaps Alvarez will direct the Independence Day sequels.
