"The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore's "Underworld" franchise.
Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.
Kate Beckinsale, who starred in the first two movies, has not cut a deal to return to the series; the third pic, a prequel, starred Rhona Mitra, who also has no deal. The fourth film does not have a director attached.
Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
The horror-action series has been successful for Screen Gems and Lakeshore, scaring up nearly $300 million worldwide.
Hlavin worked on such shows as "E-Ring" and "Daybreak" and was a writer and story editor on "Shield." He is developing his Western screenplay "The Gunslinger" at Warner Bros. and penning NBC's detective drama "Boston P.D.," which Don Cheadle is producing.
He is repped by UTA and Benderspink.

I read elsewhere that Kate Beckinsale was not considering this role and was quoted saying that the costume wear would embarrass her daughter...
Hopefully this isn't true but it wouldn't surprise me.
Her relationship with her daughter seems a little strange. The girl is well beyond her toddler years and yet her mother carries her everywhere. And just to makes things even more insensible, she just posed half nude on the cover of esquire this month.
Makes no sense...

Does anyone know who the casting director is for this project? As an actor I would like to submit myself for this project. Thank you in advance.

For the Maya their underworld was the Xibalba, and at one point the Xibalbans enjoyed the worship of the people on the surface of the Earth, who offered human sacrifice to the gods of death. Over the span of time covered in the Popol Vuh, the Xibalbans are tricked into accepting counterfeit sacrifices, and then finally humiliated into accepting lesser offerings from above.

'The Shield' was great so I believe this guy is good. Unfortunately I think 'Underworld' is one of the worst movies ever made so I don't think this one will be better.
