Jason Momoa is in early negotiations to play Robert E. Howard’s savage warrior in “Conan the Barbarian,” which Marcus Nispel is directing for Nu Image/Millenium Films. Lionsgate is distributing the epic in the U.S.
The role was one of the hot parts chased by young male actors, and the choice came down to two: Momoa and Kellan Lutz of “Twilight” fame. After weeks of keeping the two actors on pins and needles, the offer went to Momoa on Thursday.
The movie, which sees Conan seek to avenge his slaughtered father and tribe, will shoot in mid-March in Bulgaria.
Momoa, repped by APA, is best known for playing Ronon Dex in “Stargate Atlantis.” He will also be in HBO’s adaptation of the George R.R. Martin book series “A Game of Thrones.”
Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson, Joe Gatta and George Furla are among the “Conan” producers. Andrew Lobel wrote the current draft.

Good gods, why remake a classic? First COTT and now ConanI think Jason would make an great Conan! I know I would buy a ticket to see him!

What a joke. Robert E. Howard must be rolling over in his grave. Thanks Hollywood for ruining something else I love.

Is James Cameron the only director out there with imagination now? Why all the remakes H'wood?? And what's with the new director of "Dune" to speak for all sci-fi geeks saying we're disappointed with the original "Dune" ... ??
Why can't they just give a nod to the classics and say they are putting out their version based on the other instead of putting them down and remaking because they don't have their own ideas? Most everything is different now, especially technology. Progress. Deal.

I think we will see more movie effects in this movie, and it will be nice to see the remake of on of my favorite classics. Audiences will like to see a ripped Conan though

seriously guys, GTFO don't even film this, you've failed the franchise, you've failed the fans, you've failed yourselves.
Please don't do this, I'm begging you not to destroy whatever's left of this Icon.

on the one hand I love Jason Momoa, he was my absolute favorite character on Stargate Atlantis, he’s good-looking, a solid actor and he’s got great fighting skills (or at least he knows how to mimic fighting very well…)
on the other hand, is it really such a great idea to shoot a remake of Conan the Barbarian ? I mean this movie is iconic, what if the movie’s bad? does this mean we’ll never see Jason anywhere ever ?? plus I think Jared Padalecki would have been really hot as a half-naked barbarian :))

Well, it's been clamored for and now, we have indisputable evidence:
Hollywood has no clue.

Casting a light skinned black man for the role of a proto-CELTIC tanned BLUE EYED black haired warrior is just so WRONG.

Awesome! This must mean that I can finally cast for the role of Malcolm X. Silly me to think that role was closed to me.

Ok, stop. Just take a deep breath and step away from the 1980's. I mean really. Do we have to re-make everything over and over again? Can't we add something like "The Son of Conan"? Put Arnold as an old king, have him knocked off, and then have his son train and seek revenge? Are they going to remake 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' or 'Batman' or 'Fame' or 'Friday the 13th' or 'The Karate Kid' or 'Tron' now? I loved these movies growing up. Can we not come up with something new?

Better get a body suit or have the studios start ordering steroids.
Of course in todays' society I would expect not Jason but some Conans' to be femmie boys.
Might work better if Parez Hilton played Conan.
We haven't had good comedy for years.

A REMAKE!?!? Jumpin' Jeebus on a pogo-stick! There are only about a million different ways to go with our favorite Hyborean, yet they're doing a REMAKE?!?

Don't have money to buy a car? Don't worry, just because that is achievable to receive the loan to solve such problems. Hence take a consolidation loan to buy everything you need.

Crom's Bones!!! Go straight to DVD with it.!!
Totally screw up yet another Conan movie. Would be nice to get a producer/director/writer that really knows the character, loves the character and makes an honest to the book movie.
The perfect Conan movie has already been made.........The Scorpion King with The Rock. He IS Conan.
Nuff Said!!

Arnie will always be Conan in my eyes, but I'll give Momoa a chance. But I already know that this movie won't be good as the first since John Milius and Basil Poledurous aren't part of it.
