Olivia Wilde is in negotiations to star opposite Daniel Craig in the sci-fi Western “Cowboys & Aliens,” which Jon Favreau is directing for DreamWorks Studios.
Wilde will play a character named Ella who joins up with mysterious gunslinger in an unlikely uprising against an alien invasion.
Craig is playing the gunslinger, taking over the role from Robert Downey Jr., who dropped out in January.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing and wrote the script with "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof. Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are also producing along with Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who created the graphic novel upon which the movie is based.
Favreau and Denis Stewart are serving as executive producers.
WME-repped Wilde appears weekly on Fox’s hit series “House.” Her next big-screen appearance will be in Disney “Tron Legacy,” hitting theaters in December. She also will be seen in the Lionsgate thriller “The Next Three Days."

This film sounds familiar.. were there other actors previously attached to this film then dropped out..

Going from Downey to Craig strikes me as odd, but as it said in the article, Craig might be capable enough to pull it off. It sounds like it will probably need to have someone who can play physical and situational comedy, so I hope Craig is up to the challenge.

Parece que probablemente tendrá que tener a alguien que puede desempeñar la comedia física y de la situación, así que espero que Craig es el reto.

Scott Rosenberg DID NOT create "Cowboys and Aliens". It was originally a 16-page black & white ashcan created, written and drawn by me, Tom Arvis, and published and distributed at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda,MD in 1995.
Rosenberg, who claims to have created the idea on his own, though he has never taken credit for creating any other ideas, had to hire others to write and draw "HIS" graphic novel. I have had six issues written of my story since 1994.
Rosenberg trademarked the name "Cowboys & Aliens" in 1998 (three years after my book was published), and, after learning of Rosenberg's trademark, contacting Rosenberg, and several months of legal negotiations, Rosenberg and I reached an agreement in 2004 wherein I was paid to relinquish any claims to the title, with an agreement by Rosenberg to allow me to publish my story under its new title "Wayout West", without fear of legal retribution by Rosenberg.
Issues 1 through 3 of "Wayout West", the one truly original "Sci-Fi Western", are currently available for purchase through www.sureshotcomics.com, and are posted on Platinum Studio's own web-comics site, www.drunkduck.com.
Furthermore, it was stipulated in our agreement that Platinum was to publish an alternate title by me, which they have yet to do, which may constitute a possible breach in our agreement, and regarding which I intend to consult my attorney, considering the accelerated pace at which the development of Rosenberg's movie is proceeding.
I currently lay no claim to Rosenberg's story or the title, but I just people have a right to know the REAL back story to "Cowboys & Aliens", and who REALLY created what.
