Tim Robbins is joining the cast of "Green Lantern," the Martin Campbell-directed tentpole at Warner Bros. that's based on the DC Comics superhero.
Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.
Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero's love interest, Carol Ferris.
The movie is cruising to a March start in New Orleans. Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti are producing.
This is the second comic book movie for Robbins; in one of his earliest roles, he appeared in the 1986 George Lucas-produced adaptation of Marvel's "Howard the Duck."
The UTA-repped Robbins, who won an Oscar for his supporting performance in "Mystic River," last appeared onscreen in the 2008 sci-fi adaptation "City of Ember."

This entire series is an awesome read. I always thought Green Lantern was kind of a lame hero until Parallax and then this Blackest Night series. The fact that Johns melded both ideas was a master stroke. Well done. I just hope WB realize what they have here and get this guy to write some movies!

Bare Necessities
You do realize Geoff Johns didnt create Parallax right? Ron Marz and Daryl Banks created him in Green Lantern 49, in 1994. Thats 6-7 yrs before Johns started writing professionally. Just saying. Johns only revealed that Parallax was the entity that embodied fear and that Hal was actualy possessed while he was Parallax. He built on the character, didnt create it.

Tj, Johns turned Parallax into a character, rather than a bungle of an editorial mandate that Hal go off with a bang. Prior to Johns, Parallax was simply the identity that Hal took when the higher ups decided he had to go evil and kill everything off to leave the book to the new blood, Kyle [though I'm sure you know that already]. I believe what Bare necessities intended was that Johns invented Parallax, the yellow fear bug, the character. Which is true.

Well regardless of who knew what or who meant what the fact remains that what Geoff Johns and (let's not forget) Peter Tomasi have done with this title and these characters has been nothing short or miraculous. To turn GL into a book that is not only DC's best selling title but is currently, with Blackest Night, outselling X-men is no easy feat! From what I've heard in interviews Martin Campbell is a fan of and up to date on Johns work and while he's not adapting it, you can be sure he'll be borrowing lots of the little nuggets of current lore that Johns has graced us with in recent years.
I'm so pumped for this movie and the addition of Robbins is just continuing the kind of casting I've been hoping for. I have faith that this is gonna be a REALLY good movie!

Hi Guy's,
Just saying. Johns only revealed that Parallax was the entity that embodied fear and that Hal was actualy possessed while he was Parallax. He built on the character, didnt create it.

And all I'm saying is I think we know that. No one here said Johns invented Parallax. His wording may have been a little off but even the first poster said that he "melded" those ideas. I take that to mean took an existing idea and fit it into the current lore (which was the genius of Rebirth). Heck I've got a GL 50 signed by Marz and Banks and a sketch of Hal as Parallax by Banks (an awesome guy btw).
Wow! Saying that out loud REALLY makes me sound like a geek!! lol
So yeah, TIM ROBBINS!!! WooHoo!! lol

You guys DO understand that you're having a discussion about the origin of Parallax with a couple of human spam machines, don't you? Their usernames are just links to ripoff advertising sites. Don't feed the trolls, no matter how benign. This site needs to forbid the use of website names for spamming - catch up with technology, people!

approve, andy duphrane will do great in this role. reminds me of the on target casting of the non-comic character roles in the Dark Night franchise. And Batman never took down Spidey. You can't really compare them. Batman films have had a dozen movies, Spidey only 3. Spider-man is also much more kid-friendly than the newer Batman movies. And Spider-man 2 was very very well-received. Just ignore the third. Haha.

The suits in Hollywood are overlooking the obvious. Look at the bombs, The Phantom and The Shadow. Reason? Only the old codgers like myself grew up on these super heroes. Some of us remember Captain Marvel (a/k/a "The Big Red Cheese". Don't get me wrong. I am thrilled that they re coming back. Will Cap America have a "Bucky"?

This looks like it'll be a great flick. Andy will do a great part in his role, just as he always does. I'm looking forward to this movie!

Tim Robbins is my personal favorite. Most probably he is the perfect match for the role Senator Hammond. I think they are taking it really seriously and hope this movie is gonna be a epic one.

Tim Robbins is my idol, and I've been wondering for a while if there were any possible way a green lantern, a Sinestro Corps member, or any of the other color spectum members could win a fight with the Man of Steel using just their lantern powers.

What are the Green Lanterns powers? I have no idea and me and my mate regulary discuss this?
