I thought that getting to the theater 90 minutes early for a sneak peek at Nimrod Antal’s “Predators,” produced by Robert Rodriguez, would be enough. It almost wasn’t.
The event was set to start at 10 p.m. on Friday, so after grabbing dinner with friends, I strolled up to the Alamo Drafthouse on 6th Street to find the area in front of the theater free of any line. However, I realized that the start of the queue had been pushed back to the side of the building, and when I got there, I saw a line stretching a block away.
I shagged to the back and began chatting with fellow festival goers, and I eventually realized that a) the theater only holds 150-160 people and b) there were a solid 80 people in front of me. That wouldn’t be bad except that word also got back that Rodriguez’s crew and friends were in the audience and had reserved up to half the seats. On one hand, I totally understand this: Rodriguez is a hometown hero, and showing footage of “Predators” at SXSW is a bit like a progress report from a favored student. But still: Couldn’t some of this stuff have been shown to friends and family at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios?
I almost didn’t get in when I realized I’d actually been guaranteed a seat with an RSVP, so I chucked my egalitarian habit of waiting in line with newfound friends to hustle inside and grab one of the last available seats. (The people I met were so great that they actually let me hop back in line with them right afterward, assuring me a seat for “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.” Austin, you’re all right.)
The footage itself was pretty solid, as were the trailers shown to those who
made it in. Rodriguez and Antal said that one of the trailers would likely
be attached to the forthcoming “Repo Men.” It’s a smartly cut ad that
plays up the inherent horror aspects of the story while getting back to the
roots of the franchise.
The set-up is that several of Earth’s most notorious killers (which somehow includes Adrian Brody) are abducted and taken to a special planet that acts as a game preserve for Predators to run around and hunt people for sport. It’s a nice continuation of the first flick’s story that also ups the stakes, and the film won’t so much be a revamp of the character as a new direct sequel to the first movie, bypassing the deeply flawed “Predator 2.” (And the less said about the “Aliens vs. Predator” stuff, the better.)
The brief scene that was shown was a perfunctory one that wisely didn’t show any real Predators. Antal and Rodriguez are saving that for the film’s bow in July. If you’re looking for a summer action movie with atmospheric horror elements, you could do a lot worse.

The footage in the beginning itself was very nice. Those predators acts like the super predators and i am very excited to see the movie in near future as soon as it releases.

The first root that comes from a plant is called the radicle. The three major functions of roots are 1) absorption of water and inorganic nutrients, 2) anchoring of the plant body to the ground and 3) storage of food and nutrients. In response to the concentration of nutrients, roots also synthesise cytokinin, which acts as a signal as to how fast the shoots can grow.
